Meet Lazarus. Lazarus is a survivor, a real survivor. He’s beaten death (as his name implies) not once, but twice. The 4-year-old male dog was delivered to an Alabama shelter. The owner claimed he was moving and could not keep the dog. On intake Lazarus has injuries consistent to being hit by a car, dodging death for the first time. After his wounds healed Lazarus was placed for adoption. Unfortunately, no one took interest in the pup and his euthanization was scheduled. What happened next is, in short, miraculous. Lazarus was administered the euthanizing drug cocktail, confirmed dead, and left for retrieval the next morning. When vets arrived, Lazarus was not only awake, he was up and walking around, manure nine through gates to water. The shelter posted the dog’s amazing story to social media and Lazarus quickly found a permanent home.

Hopefully, Lazarus’s story will inspire more no-kill shelters. Every animal has a family, it’s just a matter of finding them.
