Attila the Hun, for all of his known military prowess, little discussed is how he conducted himself as a political entity. What was he like as king? How did he present himself to his people and foreign envoys alike? What message was he trying to convey about himself as ruler? We also look at the tip of his military innovations in this episode.

Attila the Hun As King & Diplomat

Attila the Hun seldom receives much attention for his political and diplomatic savvy. Attila is known to the popular historical memory as a stereotypical barbarian who ultimately bested the Roman Empire – specifically Western Rome – in its dying days.

Attila was far more than the keen and innovative tactician on the battlefield. Through a number of contemporaneous accounts by Roman sources, Attila was also an adept politician and diplomat. As ruler, Attila took care to foster a very specific imagine to his Hunnic subjects and rival foreign powers.

In this episodes, in addition to broaching his military prowess, we explore how Attila conducted himself as King and diplomat. In doing so, we see for the first time just how sophisticated he was in these realms. The results are as surprising as they’re impressive.

Saint Patrick: The Origin, Life & Work of the World Famous Saint

Saint Patrick, aside from Saint Nicholas, is perhaps the most widely recognized saints on the popular level in the Western world by Roman Catholics and non-Roman Catholics alike.

Yet, what did Saint Patrick do in Ireland that has since won him such notoriety on such a wide scale? There is no question that the future of Ireland itself continues to be deeply influenced by Patrick all of these centuries later.
