Critically Endangered, Critically Cute

Zoo Basel in Switzerland recently announced the birth of Lakisha, a Somali Wild Ass and a critically endangered species.  A subspecies of the African wild ass, experts believe their are less than 1,000 creatures remaining in their native habitat of Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia.  Zoo Basel has been a foremost participant in the Somali Wild Ass breeding program: Lakisha is the forty-first foal bred at the zoo since 1972!
