In April of 2006, Laxmi’s life changed. On her way to work in Delhi, a repelled suitor doused her face with acid. Blinded, her skin melting, she was hit by on-coming traffic before anyone called for help. Since the attack, Laxmi has had several surgeries to repair the damage to her skin. She has also joined the movement to stop these acid attacks by petitioning the government to more tightly regulate the purchase of acid. Perhaps more inspiring than her political efforts, are the emotional obstacles she has overcome. Laxmi passed many years hating men and resenting the portrayal of love in films and popular songs. Then Laxmi met Alok, a journalist and fellow campaigner. The two fell in love and have dedicated their lives to helping other acid attack victims reclaim their lives,
