Meet Charlie, one of three beloved canines belonging to the Pineo family. When burglars broke into their Los Angeles home Charlie and her two companion met the intruders at the door, barking fiercely and ultimately forcing their retreat. However, the armed attackers were armed and shot at the dogs, striking Charlie twice. The other dogs hurried the injured pup back inside where family members were preparing themselves for Charlie’s death. Enter Angel #1. Taken to North Central Shelter, employee Karri Lowe Armstrong used the shelter’s Intervention Program to raise the money for Charlie’s life saving surgery. Enter Angel #2. The Bill Foundation, an L.A. based dog rescue operation, heard Charlie’s plight and posted the story on it’s Facebook page. In less than an hour after Armstrong’s initial outreach, Angels everywhere donated the necessary $4,000 needed for Charlie’s operation. Though she lost one of her legs, Charlie is now home with her humans and recovery continues to go well.
